Values

Tradition and modernity –
our values since 1854

Our family has been guarding the quality of sleep since 1854 and is constantly setting new standards in sleeping comfort. Particularly, our generation has a responsibility towards people and the environment. That’s why we are continuously and intensively working on new and innovative products with sustainable, healthy properties that are based on natural and resource-conserving raw materials.

We are proud of the level of sustainability that we have achieved with our products and our production site in Germany. In addition, we are convinced that we will continue to take a step in the right direction every day in the future, true to our philosophy:

To create durable values, where the priority is on uncompromising quality and a high level of responsibility for people and the environment, rather than short-term trends. We want to and will remain your brand with heart in the future. Thank you for your trust and sleep well.

Home

Strength lies in rest –
our site on the Lower Rhine

Our home is on the Lower Rhine, and has been for many generations. The heart of our company beats in the calm town of Neukirchen-Vluyn – here, where the horizon is wide and the air is clear.

The Lower Rhine is characterized by a pragmatic and hardworking breed of people. Down-to-earth, always candid, and with strong leg muscles, because the bicycle is the transport of choice in these parts. Agriculture and horticulture dominate the picture in this rich cultural landscape. Broad fields intermingle with lush meadows. The numerous cows peacefully lift their noses towards the breeze, while old creeks provide a quiet refuge for flora and fauna. Migrating birds are popular guests.

A region with its qualities, and people that preserve and nurture their environment and allow it to prosper with an awareness of these qualities. For us, it is our obvious home – it is where most of our employees live, in peace, and always with a view to the next generation.

Our actions are shaped by the peace and stability of the Lower Rhine.

1854 Company founded in Vluyn
on the Lower Rhine

In 1854, Wilhelm Kremers (the great-great-grandfather of the current directors) founded a wadding and quilt factory in Vluyn on the Lower Rhine. Wilhelm Kremers was very good at reading the signs of the times; while industrialism was still in its infancy, he started investing in machinery for manufacturing advanced products.

since1870 Company modernised
with steam power

In 1870, the company adopted the name "Gebr. Kremers" (Kremer Brothers), which would stay with the company for many years to come. The foundations had been laid for a booming family business. No sooner had the second generation taken over (in the form of Heinrich, Gottfried and Jakob Kremers) than the company was using steam power – which in those days was an up-and-coming technology.

innovation

At the turn of the century, the third generation of the family joined the company when Wilhelm Kremers took over the reins. He had a real skill for acquiring customers way beyond the confines of the Lower Rhine and he managed to find them in the major German cities, the Netherlands and Belgium.

since1930 The Great Depression and
World War II

After the premature death of Wilhelm Kremers in 1930, his widow guided the company through the harsh years of The Great Depression and World War II. During this period, the company set up new store rooms, dispatch areas and a new eiderdown department, and it also constructed a new office building.

since1945 Recovery and
growth

After the Second World War, the fourth generation took charge. With Werner and Dieter Kremers now at the helm, the family business lived through a period of reconstruction and the early stages of economic recovery. By the 1950s, it was – once again – distributing its bedding products at an international level.

since1949 Development
of synthetic filling fibres

In 1949, Gebr. Kremers started to be seen as a pioneer in the processing of synthetic filling fibres for bedding and sleeping bags. The driving force behind this development was a certain Professor Paul Schlack, who was responsible for inventing the polyamide fibre known as "nylon".

since1954 Production of sleeping bags
for expeditions

In 1954, the company supplied the sleeping bags for the first expedition to the Himalayas. These were filled with synthetic fibres (Dralon was used initially before switching over to the new polyester fibre). Further expeditions quickly followed, including those undertaken by Hermann Buhl and Dr Karl M. Herrligkoffer.

1958 Plant in
Stuttgart

The company expanded by taking over other firms and constructing new plants. It kick-started this process by purchasing the Ideal quilt factory in Stuttgart in 1958 and constructing a modern plant in Winnenden near Stuttgart.

1965 Acquisition of the
Paradies brand

In 1965, the brothers acquired a bedding company called Paradiesbettenfirma M. Steiner & Sohn (formerly based in Frankenberg, Saxony). The purchase brought with it all the company's expertise and the "Paradies" brand, a label rich in tradition that had been entered in the Berlin trade mark register way back in 1903.
